Finally emerging from the financial struggles of the 1960’s, the Phoenix Zoo began a period of growth and development. In 1970, the Zoo’s assets passed the $1 million mark and attendance topped 500,000 for the first time. Membership reached 7,000. The Young Executives Men’s Group was started to help increase membership and the Board embarked on a plan for the Zoo’s future development.
“One of the things we need in America today is an awareness of the good earth….I think the Zoo can furnish an element of this,” said Earl Bimson, President of the Arizona Zoological Society during the 70s.
