Historical Retrospective: 1960s Come to a Close

We hope you enjoyed going back in time to the 1960s and finding out about the Zoo and its beginnings. Here’s some last information on the 1960s, and watch out next week for the beginning of the 1970s.

 

The 1960’s were a time of financial restructuring and development for the Zoo.  The Phoenix Zoo’s first important conservation initiative, Operation Oryx, was begun in an attempt to save the Arabian oryx from extinction.  New exhibits were built and the first animals were acquired.
